Although often expensive and time-consuming, user research takes a lot of the risk out of product development and is a lot cheaper than creating a product no one really wants.
One of the first things I try to impress upon my UX students is: "You are not your audience."
YOU can't know how users will act and react in a given situation. YOU can only assume. YOU will usually assume wrong.

Setting up a usability testing kit. Observation and analysis form/spreadsheet for now. Will come with more explanation and how to set up and run a usability test. What do you need you need or would think is needed? Both when it comes to templates, but also explanations on how to go about setting up, running, analyze and communicate a usability test?

Is it just me or is half of #userTesting ensuring that your test subjects are *actually* the people with the needs, and not just someone (usually a manager) that *thinks* they know what people need?
The first day of #UserTesting is done! 
I can’t believe how much I learned today about how people with #visual #impairments navigate the web. Totally recommend doing testing with real people!
