A causa di una diga naturale formata da rami e tronchi l'acqua del ruscello che scende a sinistra si ferma e forma una grande pozzanghera sul sentiero

#ThickTrunkTuesday The arbutus or madrone (Arbutus menziesii) goes from a young bark chartreuse and smooth to deep brownish-red and peeling off.
Daniel Mosquin at the UBC Botanical Gardens says: "It has a seasonal deciduous period – July and August – when all of the previous year’s leaves fall. It just so happens that the current year’s leaves remain on the tree at this time – so it is both evergreen and deciduous."
Our last day at Mt. Rainier National Park so we took a more challenging (for us!) hike up to Rampart Ridge. 4.6 miles with an elevation gain of 1339 feet. They have some very big trees in this part of the world. Our favorite things to come across was two trees of different species growing as one.
Today we return east. Our kitties at least will be glad!

I always enjoy looking upwards through a canopy of pale green, newly minted beech leaves. It's one of the great seasonal sights to be savoured in the early summer sunshine.
