The USS Enterprise in a very dark area of space in the #StarTrekSNW episode "Ghosts of Illyria"
and in an area cleared by the space amoeba in #StarTrekTOS "The Immunity Syndrome"

I love this detail: The number of holes on the rear nacelle end caps of the Enterprise, as seen on #StarTrekSNW ("Children of the Comet") matches exactly the number of holes on the nacelle end caps of the #StarTrekTOS "Where No Man Has Gone Before" version of the Enterprise model . 
Big thanks to my friends at @trekcore who have edited together the bridge/viewscreen footage with Kirk in command, spread over 8 #StarTrekTOS season 1-3 episodes and put it all back together into one long sequence, the way it was originally filmed almost 60 years ago. Check it out at the Trekcore Youtube channel. This was well worth all the research!
Let's see what we have learned about the bridge/viewscreen stock footage on #StarTrekTOS: All of those shots were filmed during the production of "Arena". Episode-specific shots were later re-used in "Return to Tomorrow"
. But additional, generic shots were also filmed at the same time.

The footage with an empty Captain's chair and Kirk in command are part of one longer take and can be put into a sequential order, using images from eight different #StarTrekTOS season 1-3 episodes, as can be seen in this screenshot collage. Now wouldn't it be cool if...

Finally, after it was filmed during the production of the #StarTrekTOS' season 1 episode "Arena", footage of Spock in the Captain's chair, obviously in command of the Enterprise, is first seen as late as season 3's "The Paradise Syndrome" and then again in "The Cloud Minders". 1/2

Only a short part of the "Spock in the Captain's chair" stock footage appears in its debut in #StarTrekTOS' "The Paradise Syndrome" (2nd row). It's part of a much longer sequence that also shows Spock getting up, walking to the front of the helm console, all of it seen in "The Cloud Minders". 2/2

Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley has all the #StarTrekTOS Captain Kirk season 1 fun (staring at mirrors, ripping shirts, fist-fights in engineering and single-handedly saving the ship) in the #StarTrekSNW season 1 episode "Ghosts of Illyria" and absolutely nails it!

Kirk is also seen standing in front of the Captain's chair after getting up in #StarTrekTOS "Turnabout Intruder"
in "Elaan of Troyius"
and twice in "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield"
. All these new season 3 shots are part of the same take, filmed during production of season 1's "Arena". 2/3

Finally, there are two more unconnected shots of Kirk standing in front of the helm console, getting closer to the main viewscreen in #StarTrekTOS' "Elaan of Troyius" and "Spock's Brain". Both shots were filmed with season 1's "Arena" but first appeared much later in season 3. 3/3
While the stock footage viewscreen shot of Kirk sitting in the Captain's chair (leaning to the left) debuted in #StarTrekTOS' "The City on the Edge of Forever" we get a much longer version of the shot in "Turnabout Intruder", where he's seen getting up and walking forward. 1/3
