hat jemand Erfahrungen mit #scuttlebutt, und kurz davon berichten ?

@franklinlopez I can't speak to layer-3 of that equation, but #Scuttlebutt might be part of the answer for layer-5:

Basically, we need to build social networks that are tolerant of infrequent or even nonexistent internet access, and an async protocol like scuttlebutt, maybe coupled with Gemini or LoraWAN for infrequent bursts of notifications could do that for us.
@zelf just got patchwork again and its still working #scuttlebutt forever ;)

#TIL about #TildeFriends;
"... a platform for building, running, and sharing web applications."
"Tilde Friends participates in the Secure #Scuttlebutt distributed social network.
... The social network integration provides tools for connecting with other people world-wide while still allowing apps and everything to operate offline."
There's a web app at that address and an app in F-Droid. Cool idea, but it's an early prototype, nothing about how to use it is obvious.
Except that #Bluesky is the complete antithesis of #Scuttlebutt … centralized closed system.
One of the unsung heroes of Bluesky’s success is Dominic Tarr, whose #Scuttlebutt protocol was an inspiration for Bluesky CTO @pfrazee.com (the first dev to join Dominic in 2014). Some of those P2P learnings from Scuttlebutt eventually made their way to Bluesky. https://thenewstack.io/how-bluesky-was-influenced-by-scuttlebutt-a-p2p-protocol/ #P2P #DecentralizedWeb
I'm feeling a renewed sense that decentralised communication protocols are important. The Fediverse too at least for now although its reliance on instance servers puts it outside the scope of what I'm referring to.

Beaker Browser was a Chromium-based Web browser that incorporated the Dat protocol with the primary aim of enabling peer-to-peer static site sharing. To this end, Oku is similar; in fact, Beaker Browser was part of the inspiration to create Oku. The two projects diverge in their long-term ambitions, however; (...)

Although a lot of the P2P attention and energy attracted by SSB has moved to Nostr (eg the Planetary team pivoting to nos.social), the dominant cultures of the 2 networks remain very different (SolarPunk vs. CryproBro).
Anyone lurking here with a window into the current state of Scuttlebutt? I have questions.
1) How many SSB apps are in active development?
2) How many of these apps are usable as beta tester? As a daily driver?
(1/?)
After being in #Scuttlebutt and #NOSTR decentralized social media, now I'm exploring the #Fediverse with #Mastodon. Just saying hi!
Just saw that @staltz is giving up work on his open source #Scuttlebutt project, Manyverse. https://www.manyver.se/blog/2024-04-05 It's a shame, but although I liked the theory of Scuttlebutt, I could never gain any traction on it (admittedly I only tried for the time it took me to write this article in July 2021, which discusses Manyverse: https://thenewstack.io/scuttlebutt-decentralize-and-escape-the-social-media-rat-race/). In any case, I wish Andre well — I agree that social media these days is tough going and sometimes I struggle for motivation to engage on it too.
@rabble you mean that #Scuttlebutt who made that #Blockchain - #AntisocialNetwork?
hoere ich doch mal rein. was is denn das "neue"? habt ihr secure #scuttlebutt entdeckt?
@sushee This sounds a bit like #SSB #Scuttlebutt? @masukomi
#Scuttlebutt people (the decentralized social network). Help needed:
I currently "own" the "scuttlebutt" Handshake Domain. https://www.namebase.io/domains/scuttlebutt
Someone made me an offer for it but I don't know who. If this is someone actually responsible for Scuttlebutt I'll give it to them for free.
I'm not on Scuttlebutt anymore so if you could reach out to whoever's in charge these days and tell them I'd appreciate it. I tried when i used to be on, but no-one responded.
I started patchwork again. It is a client for the scuttlebutt protocoll. It is specialized decentralized information exchange, that does not require you to be always online.
I find it quite intruiging, but also ... I haven't opened it in years.
Anybody here on it? #patchwork #ssb #scuttlebutt
"I want to go back to how it was a couple years ago with more people actively using it as a social platform and community to enjoy life instead of chatting about protocols. I want to go back to curated diaries, vegan junkfood, internal jokes, mushrooms everywhere, coffee posts, and a kinda of cool hippie solarpunkish culture community in which the protocol was just the tool and not the objective."

I've been able to re-connect to #Scuttlebutt p2p network using my old private key
I downloaded all my history, messages, account settings etc... from peers
You can read a bit about this interesting p2p social network protocol:
https://dataswamp.org/~solene/2020-11-04-ssb-oasis.html (oasis client on OpenBSD stopped working and I gave up, but the text is still interesting)
