I'm wondering whether to go all-in on a silly little coding adventure: a defrag simulator.
Some people find these satisfying to watch.
I can see a way for it to start simple, but then grow subtleties. Its current direction is targeting 16-bit and 32-bit look and feel, like Amiga fast defraggers.
It uses colours now, but I want to make it more accessible.
I also want to make it open source, when I won't be embarrassed by the code.
By request, a playlist of PeerTube videos about the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A home computer:

The little SAM Coupe PCBs I made to go on the top of my new SAA1099P Soundchip Interface (for RC2014 and compatibles) looked so good I've got extra made to make them available as pin badges!

I have (of corpse) backups of:
1. My home directory
2. /opt (macports)
3. MacOSX Software that I have installed
Is the solution really to repartition the disk and reinstall everything?
Thanks in advance. Please be so kind to boist

Another #retrocomputing question:
My "new" old iBook G4 has a 120GB hard disk, which is entirely allocated to Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard". I want to set aside 10 or 20 GB for Mac OS 9.2.2 "Classic". I can boot from CD into Mac OS 9.
Now I need a tool to resize the partition, preferably without destroying the Mac OS X partition.
I disabled journaling on the start drive and tried the following:
1. resizing with disktool
2. resizing with iPartition
Both don't work.

The coding style in this #Commodore64 Programmer's Reference Guide is ... bad. None of these programs are so long they couldn't use spaces! #retrocomputing
Long before the internet, some phone networks were hackable by playing a single tone at 2600Hz.
Whistled into a phone, it could grant you unrestricted access. Do you have the vocal chops to be an old-school phone phreak?
I built a web app to test your ability to produce the legendary frequency. You won't get free long distance calls but you will get some honor in the knowledge that you could have been a cool hacker.
I am sad to say that I can only whistle up to 1100Hz... But my wife (a long time woodwind player) is able to consistently get it.
Give it a try: https://phreak.kmcd.dev/
In the 1980s I did know Compaq was a major computer manufacturer but didn't realize the extent to which it influenced the PC industry. This article tells the story of the company and its CEO Rod Canion.

Looks like most of the Creative Computing SF stories. Tended towards slightly existential horror.
I love that it has an index by length in words.
Or other unfortunate covers, maybe don't put "Surfin" coming out of a guy's butt.

You should understand, the stories about Atari's sex & drugs culture were, if anything, understated. And that carried over to the users.

The cover here is great, but giving false advertising. No Apple ][ game looked that good, were not in cabinets (that's Atari.), and pretty women in flimsy dresses were not going to be enthralled by your space videogame.
