Kevin Karhan :verified:<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@macasieb" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>macasieb</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://furry.engineer/@ret" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>ret</span></a></span> also we're talking about <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://programming.dev/c/jetbrains" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>jetbrains</span></a></span> and I'm talking about companies with 25+ employees having the entire <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/JetBrains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>JetBrains</span></a> suite (or at the very least <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/IntelliJ" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IntelliJ</span></a> / <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/IntellijIDEA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IntellijIDEA</span></a>) fully licensed for everyone (except HR & accounting cuz they don't need it, so about 23+ licenses!)...</p><ul><li>We're talking ~ € 11,5k list pricing <em>PER YEAR</em> and I'm pretty shure the <em>'Enterprise Site Licensing'</em> (requiring workers to <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/VPN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VPN</span></a> into the HQ or else the Software refuses to start!) will still be 5 digits (as it's a pay-as-you-go "volume" licensing that automatically authorizes systems, in exchange for not having to manually fiddle with license keys...)</li></ul><p>Mind you they do a lot of big corporate projects that they get paid for secrecy (not as in MIL/INTEL, but like 7+ digit fines if they were to leak that they're doing a project for <code>[redacted]</code> and get paid extra to not be credited kinda thing), so it's kinda a big no-no for these people.</p><ul><li>Espechally since they're willing to pay for it. I could rationalize it if this was a <em>"Freemium"</em> thingy and like <em>pirated <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/Windows10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows10</span></a> / <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/Windows11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Windows11</span></a></em> (which locks the customization and adds a transparent "please activate" overlay)  were to forcibly opt-in on that feature if one doesn't license the Software...</li></ul><p>But it's just not acceptable for <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/CCSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CCSS</span></a>. </p><ul><li>In fact, this loss of trust will enshure that I'll never buy their stuff and keep abusing <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/PyCharm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PyCharm</span></a> or migrate to <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/VScodium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VScodium</span></a> if not <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/neovim" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>neovim</span></a> ( <a href="https://infosec.space/tags/NvChad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NvChad</span></a> ) down the line...</li></ul>
