Looks like in the face of Discord enshittification we shall move BACK instead of OVER.
So not over to Revolt, not over to Slack, not over to any other fucked-up corporate shit show. But back to IRC, back to mailing lists, back to Mumble, back to stuff we can host ourselves.
Yes we've used some Jitsi Meet here and there and that doesn't seem to be about to enshittify just yet but with Mumble we're ready for that too. Because we learned that we don't really need video to play RPGs. It can be nice to have video, but it's not essential for our take on the hobby.
That said I hate IRC. But I'll just somehow arrange myself with it. Had my first "in game interaction" using IRC today and it works. It's not great, but fuck it, what's great? Would be nice to have a "record" of the IRC channels just like we have a "record" of the Discord channels now, but I guess that can be arranged, I seem to recall "protocol bots" or whatever they were called from my innocent IRC usage years ago.
Just a matter of when we pull we'll actually the plug on Discord I guess.
