Iggi<p>Lovers of old <a href="https://mastodontech.de/tags/sun" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>sun</span></a> hardware go with <a href="https://mastodontech.de/tags/solaris" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>solaris</span></a> 11.4.81 CBE and give a fuck on <a href="https://mastodontech.de/tags/openindiana" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>openindiana</span></a> which is for years not capable of booting on something that should be in their DNA. You better install Solaris, Windows and Linux than Openindiana. What a waste of time and it gets worse with every single rolling release. Fuck!</p>

JdeBP<p>I see that over the past 11 years or so, since at least 2014, people have been trying to port <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Illumos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Illumos</span></a> to the <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/RaspberryPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPi</span></a>. Unsuccessfully, presumably, given that none of <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/OmniOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OmniOS</span></a>, <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/OpenIndiana" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenIndiana</span></a>, or <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Tribblix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Tribblix</span></a> claim ARM support and all of the porting projects seem to have stalled.</p><p>Only one of those, Tribblix, even has any non-amd64 support, which is quite a contrast with the SunOS origins.</p><p><a href="http://tribblix.org/relnotes.html#m32-sparc" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="ellipsis">tribblix.org/relnotes.html#m32</span><span class="invisible">-sparc</span></a></p><p>I wonder why the port attempts have failed. Felix Palmen :freebsd: :c64:<p>Just released: <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/swad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>swad</span></a> 0.7! 😎 </p><p>Swad is the "Simple Web Authentication Daemon". If you're looking for a solution to add cookie/form <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/authentication" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>authentication</span></a> to your <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/nginx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nginx</span></a> reverse proxy, or maybe even a <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/lightweight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lightweight</span></a> alternative to <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/Anubis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Anubis</span></a> which leaves the actual proxying to nginx, this might be for you! It is designed for use with nginx' auth_request, written in pure C, with minimal dependencies (zlib and, depending on build options, openssl/libressl and/or libpam), and compiles to a small binary (currently between 150kiB and less than 300kiB depending on compiler and target platform).</p><p>Swad should work on many <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/posix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>posix</span></a> (and almost) systems. It's actually tested on <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/FreeBSD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FreeBSD</span></a> (in "production" use, but on a very low-traffic private site), and quick functionality tests also done on <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> (<a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a>) and <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/OpenIndiana" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenIndiana</span></a> (<a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/Illumos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Illumos</span></a>, open-source <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/Solaris" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Solaris</span></a> descendant).</p><p>As announced, this release doesn't bring any new features (in terms of WHAT it can do), but great improvements "under the hood", that should help performance at least on some platforms, see release notes for swad 0.7.</p><p>Read more, and download the .tar.xz (to build and install it 😆) here:<br><a href="https://github.com/Zirias/swad" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/Zirias/swad</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>

So I might just install e.g. <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/OpenIndiana" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenIndiana</span></a> to also play around with /dev/poll. Had a look at an old SunOS manpage, seems simple enough to use 😉</p>
Felix Palmen :freebsd: :c64:<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://chaos.social/@Toasterson" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Toasterson</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@astade" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>astade</span></a></span> I'm downloading an <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/OpenIndiana" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenIndiana</span></a> image right now, we will see.</p><p>For Linux, I now have support for <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/epoll" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>epoll</span></a> (fd events), and additionally <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/signalfd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>signalfd</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/timerfd" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>timerfd</span></a>. On the BSD's that have <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/kqueue" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>kqueue</span></a>, it covers all these aspects. So, little question here: Are there any solaris / <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/illumos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>illumos</span></a> APIs specifically for signal handling and individual timers I should look into? Or should I stick to classic async handlers (signals) and setitimer (timers) on that platform, and just have a look at /dev/poll?</p>
