Not the sliding (special) potentiometer was broken, but another part. No idea, why. The 250 kOhm were.... gone...
Luckily, my parts' storage had exactly one exactly fitting spare part.

Reinigung der kalten Dampfbügeleisendampflöcher:

mit Interdentalbürstchen. Das habe ich mir gerade als passende Methode ausgedacht.

Reinigung der Bügeleisenfläche:

das kalte Bügeleisen auf der rauhen Seite einer flach und faltenfrei ausgelegten Aluminiumfolie mit Druck ausstreichen, quasi die Folie "bügeln". So oft wiederholen, bis der gewünschte Erfolg eintritt. YMMV

Nimm pdfcropmargins und Du hast die Lösung Deines Problems.

So I decided to harness the sleeplessness and put my SPARC side to work (yeah, I'm that old) and came up with a solution involving a flexible joint cover & locking over-sleeve that seems to have worked.
