Aptivi<p><strong>GNOME 49 Alpha&nbsp;released!</strong></p><p>The first alpha version of the upcoming GNOME 49 desktop is now live! This version introduces you to many more improvements that were done to the desktop environment during its development so that you can be more productive. In addition to that, the image loading mechanism has changed to use the newer <a href="https://blogs.gnome.org/sophieh/2025/06/13/making-gnomes-gdkpixbuf-image-loading-safer/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Rust-based Glycin</a> image loading library that supports more formats, while making sure that this operation is secure.</p><p>According to GNOME, it’s a “fairly sizable alpha release and it includes a handful of notable changes.” Those include the replacement of Totem, Evince, and Devhelp with the <a href="https://apps.gnome.org/Showtime/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Showtime</a> media player, the <a href="https://apps.gnome.org/Papers/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Papers</a> document reader, and the <a href="https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/manuals" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Manuals</a> developer documentation reader.</p><p>Additionally, the X11 session has been disabled and will be removed in the next GNOME version that will be released after GNOME 49. This is to ensure that it uses Wayland fully. Of course, it includes many changes that were done to enhance user experience.</p><p>You can read more about this release here.</p> <a class="" href="https://discourse.gnome.org/t/gnome-49-alpha-released/29720" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Read more</a> <p><span></span></p><p><a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/desktop/" target="_blank">#Desktop</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/desktop-environment/" target="_blank">#DesktopEnvironment</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/gnome/" target="_blank">#GNOME</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/gnome-49/" target="_blank">#GNOME49</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/linux/" target="_blank">#Linux</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/news/" target="_blank">#news</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/tech/" target="_blank">#Tech</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/technology/" target="_blank">#Technology</a> <a rel="nofollow noopener" class="hashtag u-tag u-category" href="https://officialaptivi.wordpress.com/tag/update/" target="_blank">#update</a></p>
