NATO agrees to 5% higher defence spending target ahead key summit at The Hague.

NATO allies have reached a consensus to increase spending on defence to 5% of their countries' GDP by 2035, media reports showed on Sunday.

Allies are expected to commit to spending around 3.5% of GDP on "hard defence" that will include weapons and troops and an additional 1.5% on defence-related investments such as cybersecurity and military mobility.

Denmark deploying US-made 'sail drones' in the Baltic to monitor for maritime activity that threatens submarine cable infrastructure, Russian activity in particular.

While good on paper, not everyone is happy with the supplier.

Jacob Herbst, head of the Danish Cybersecurity Council, said: “With the international situation we are currently seeing, you obviously have to think very carefully when choosing American suppliers in this area.”

Expect some headlines next week during the #NATO summit about #Canada having to increase #Defence spending to 5%. We currently spend 2% or a little less. That places G7 country Canada between Latvia, Lithuania, Greece and Belgium. The proposal is to spend 3.5% on Defence (equipment, salaries - this is why Carney announced that salary increase) and 1.5% on infrastructure and shelters etc. Spain is pushing back. 5% for Canada equals about 140 billion CAD if I do my math right.

The Paris Air Show kicks off against a backdrop of global geopolitical tension.

More than 2,400 companies from 48 countries are showing off their hardware at the week-long event on the outskirts of Paris.

While the sales rivalry between Airbus and Boeing usually drives the headlines, war, tariffs and the Air India crash will cast a shadow over the aerospace industry's biggest gathering.
