"To keep Earth habitable, humanity must recognize the value of Antarctica and seek to save it from irreversible damage.

Far from being a remote, isolated continent, Antarctica is integral to Earth’s climate and life-support systems.

Its vast ice sheet stores more than 90% of the planet’s surface fresh water and influences sea levels, circulation of the atmosphere and how much sunlight the planet reflects.

Around Antarctica, the Southern Ocean acts as the lungs of the deep sea, accounting for roughly 40% of the global ocean’s uptake of carbon dioxide emissions generated by human activities, shaping how seawater mixes and distributes nutrients to support marine life around the globe."

dear #ClimateDiary I realized with great sadness that some people do not live in my reality at all. again.

like I usually read here and most people would agree that climate change is real, that the future will be catastrophic and that it is necessary to do something now.

people do personal stuff like buying less, flying less, sharing repairs, working in gardens, etc.

but then I see those people that are still flying around the globe for conferences like nothing ...

Looking forward to next month…

Do you remember
Hurricane season September?
No changing the minds of pretenders
No chasing the clouds away

Our heads were stinging
In the key that assholes are singing
As winds danced in the night, remember
How assholes stole the nights away, oh yeah

Hey, hey, hey
Ba-dee-ya, say, do you remember?
Ba-dee-ya, chancing in September
Ba-dee-ya, more and more chaotic days

Map showing wildfire dangers in Europe 11-17 August 2025, with light green as no danger, dark red as highest. Large parts, especially in northern Spain and France, in darkest colours, highest danger, with significant parts, as we know, already burning now; but really all of Europe, with exception of northern UK, scandinavia and Russia all orange/ red/dark red
