steve mookie kong
I drove a Jeep Wagoneer over the weekend to LA and back to San Jose. It was a rental, buying it would cost between $70-80k. It was a monster and I don't mean that in a good & cool way.

The only fun thing about it was the twin turbo V6.

It was like driving a brick: Slow to stop and turning always felt like it would roll over.

There were capacitive buttons for the seat heaters in just the right place where they could be activated accidentally. This wouldn't have been so bad except that one cannot turn them off with the buttons, but only through a dig through the touchscreen menus to turn it off. Not a great experience while on the freeway with my butt on fire.

The touchscreen was low, so looking at Apple CarPlay for directions always felt like I took my eyes off the road for too long. Changing music was something that felt dangerous.

There were not many physical buttons and most everything needed to be done through the touchscreen. Making operating a giant boat on wheels super dangerous.

To fold down the third row seats, the right side had a button that could be pushed after opening the rear hatch. The left side had a button, but it was behind the left side seat, making it necessary to open the left side door.

This thing got a 26.5 gallon tank and gets between 16mpg.

The ride was super floaty and it always felt unsettled after hitting a bump.

All this to say, I did not like the Jeep Wagoneer. I spent 14 unpleasant hours driving this thing.

#automobile #suv #jeep #wagoneer
