Samsung rzuca wyzwanie Google TV. System Tizen trafi do telewizorów RCA, EKO i innych

Samsung ogłosił znaczące rozszerzenie programu licencjonowania swojego systemu operacyjnego Tizen OS, umacniając swoją pozycję na rynku platform Smart TV.

W praktyce oznacza to, że popularny system, znany z telewizorów Samsung, trafi do urządzeń wielu innych producentów na całym świecie. To strategiczny ruch, który stawia Tizena w bezpośredniej konkurencji z platformą Google TV (Android TV).

Po wprowadzeniu na rynek nowej wersji systemu, Tizen OS 8.0, Samsung rozszerzył współpracę z kolejnymi producentami w Europie, obu Amerykach i Australii. Wśród nowych partnerów znalazły się takie marki jak RCA (w USA, Kanadzie i Meksyku), EKO i QBELL (w Australii i Europie) oraz Axdia (w Niemczech). Firma zapowiada, że w drugiej połowie 2025 roku do programu dołączą kolejne marki, co potwierdza rosnące globalne zapotrzebowanie na tę platformę.

Producenci decydujący się na licencjonowanie systemu Tizen zyskują dostęp nie tylko do sprawdzonej i wydajnej platformy, ale do całego ekosystemu funkcji znanych z telewizorów Samsunga. Mowa tu między innymi o usłudze z darmowymi kanałami Samsung TV Plus, platformie do grania w chmurze Samsung Gaming Hub czy integracji z systemem inteligentnego domu w ramach aplikacji SmartThings. Partnerzy otrzymują również od Samsunga pełne wsparcie techniczne i marketingowe, w tym pakiety treści dostosowane do konkretnych regionów, co ma ułatwić im wejście na rynek i konkurowanie z innymi graczami.

Decyzja o szerokim udostępnianiu systemu Tizen to wyraźny sygnał, że Samsung chce uczynić ze swojej platformy wiodące rozwiązanie dla producentów telewizorów, rzucając tym samym wyzwanie dominacji Google TV.

„W tym roku skupiamy się na rozszerzaniu programu licencjonowania i tworzeniu zróżnicowanych strategii współpracy dla naszych kluczowych partnerów” – skomentował Jooyoung Kim, wiceprezes w Samsung Electronics.

Dla konsumentów oznacza to potencjalnie większy wybór tańszych telewizorów różnych marek, które będą wyposażone w dojrzały i bogaty w funkcje system Smart TV.

Samsung prezentuje pierwszy na świecie telewizor Micro RGB. To nowy standard w segmencie premium?

I have an amazing setup at home with Jellyfin and other self-hosted apps.

Now I'd like to get away from Roku and I think the easiest way to do that would likely be an unGoogled Android TV box.

Does anyone know of an UnGoogled Android TV box?

If not, any suggestions for an out of the box TV setup that will let me run Android or Roku without the spyware and ads?

Note that I don't want to build the hardware myself (been there, done that in my 20s), and I don't want to run plain Linux and use a web browser. I want to run apps (likely Android apps) on the TV using an out of the box remote, and connect to my Jellyfin and other home services).

The past years of development on @jellyfin for #AndroidTV focused on modernizing code to increase maintainability and stability. Because of that I've now been able to make more visible changes. 👏

The next major release (version 0.19.0) will have a completely redesigned top bar and an entirely new search screen, with voice-search! 🎤

The navigation on top is not in the final state yet, it will be enhanced over time. I'm just not sure if that will be in 0.19 yet 🙈.

I am thinking about ditching the #Magenta supplied #AndroidTV box for a more trustworthy solution.

Does anyone know if there are third party clients for Magenta's TV streaming service (tv.magenta.at/) that run well on an ARM64 Linux PC?

I could probably just use the Browser, but the Magenta streaming website is heavily optimized for mouse usage, and I would prefer to use a TV remote.

@openalt Jo a ještě jsem musel na firewallu bloknout #GoogleDNS, protože #Netflix na #AndroidTV obchází nastavení sítě a na některé adresy se ptá se přímo googlu. Bez toho dochází k divnému chování, kdy se střídavě ukazuje německá a česká nabídka pořadů, a při spuštění pořadu to s poloviční pravděpodobností přehrává nebo zobrazí VPN chybu.
